Educator Focus: Oscar Lenain

Oscar Lenain is a Bass, Guitar, Drum & Keyboard specialist Educator.

Oscar Lenain, a bass player, composer, and improviser based in Naarm/Melbourne, discovered his passion for music while growing up on Wurundjeri Land in regional Victoria. Initially drawn to producing and beat-making, he later found his love for the bass guitar in high school.

In 2023, Oscar graduated with a Bachelor of Jazz and Improvisation from the Victorian College of the Arts at the University of Melbourne, studying under Australia’s leading improvisers. Over the past few years, he has actively contributed to various genre-diverse projects as a sideman, touring and recording with bands such as Paprika, LAZR Bees, Convenience Store, as well as several jazz ensembles.

Oscar served as the musical director for the stage show “Reservoir Dogs,” featuring an all-female cast at the Mountview Theatre in September 2022.

Inspired by contemporary large group jazz-funk and nu-jazz bands, his personal project, Oggy Oggy, commenced live performances in 2023 and is currently recording his debut album.
